Yet in all of that time, enabling Personal Hotspot still only ran over the 2.4GHz band, which also left users unable to take advantage of the much faster 802.11ac standard (now known as “Wi-Fi 5”), since that only operates in the 5GHz range. To put this in perspective, Apple has offered the ability to use the much faster 5GHz Wi-Fi frequencies on outbound connections since it debuted the iPhone 5 back in 2012 - over eight years ago.
